Stories from North Dakota

Saturday, January 28, 2006

I'm in the market for a new computer. I have yet to decide on a laptop or a desktop. I will be using it for uni and work. Favourite companies include Apple, Toshiba, Dell, and Gateway but not in that particular order.

Let me know what you think I should get. I will be purchasing it for this summer.

I am sick.
I am tired.
I always busy.

I just wanted to say that because I wanted too. Fuck this entry sucks..

Friday/Saturday Night Hockey = Heaven

There is something odd about the people up here. All week they complain about the cold and snow. All week they complain about homework and assignments. But come Friday and Saturday nights they will gladly brave -15 degrees F to stand outside an arena to get tickets to the hottest games in all of North Dakota.

If you don't attend the hockey games up here, you are considered an outcast; something must be wrong with you; you must be on your death bed. Well seeing how I don't want to be cast aside, I thought it would be entertaining to attend this so called sport of hockey.

See this old guy named Ralph Engelstad left the university an arena full of cash, literally. So we built this. A monument to the gods! Most impressive right? Much better than the University of Minnesota's arena.

The Gods dictate that the students can not drink in their seats so much chugging of adult beverages occurs in the lobbies. Fifteen mins of breaks occurs twice, so that means that a total of 128 ozs of adult beverages can be consumed in just 25 mins, giving some extra time for the toliet and time to return to the seat. This makes hockey so much better! Or it could have been the 10 min fight that occured resulting in the ejection of 6 players, several large purple spots on the skin, and several long instances of crowds going drunkenly insane. Or it could have been the fact that we kicked ass! Or the fact that we won! Or the very comfortable leather seats! Or all of the above reasons.

Chanting seems to be the God's favourite past time. Although the Gods sat us students down the other day in our respective seats and waged the finger at us. So we students came up some catchy songs and chats now. "All by myself" was a common theme song as players were sent to sit by themselves in the box. Civ, Civ, Civ, Civ seems to be a popular one that the common folks like. You still suck... is popular when the other team scores, which isn't often really. Some drinking song is most popular but I didn't quite get all the words, something along of the lines of we drink because there is nothing else to do in Nodak. They got that one right.

It is Sunday now and the Gods have gone back to doing their thing and the others wait around patiently for next weeks game.

Let's Hit the Highlights

The last few weeks have been non-stop crazy. My university schedule is nasty. My job on campus has been keeping me busy. My social network is expanding faster than JetBlue services. Oh and my paying blogging job is satisfying my desire to tell the world my story. So lets hit the highlights shall we?:

  • I have been hanging out with people on the 4th floor of my dorm more often. I've been very social actually. Spending time with them at dinner. Been hanging out with them in the lobby. Even going drinking together. How adorable is that? I've managed to add about 8 zillion new phones to the mobile, so many to the point where I have about 9 Matt's and 3 Blakes. I didnt think Blake was a popular name but apparently it was 21 years ago on the west coast.
  • I have the world's nastiest uni schedule. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are non-stop from 8am til around 4pm. I've been getting up in the mornings to go to gym before class. That shit is stopping. I am going to start going in the afternoons. That extra 1.5 hours before class is critical lately and this going to the gym in the morning to beat the rush is not working out so well. Apparently most people had the same train of thought as I did. Thursdays aren't much better because of my work schedule I end up sleeping for a majority of the day. Friday's are decent as I try to be social that day and go out drinking before work but I have a slight problem controlling myself and I have had some days where I have nearly stumbbled into work wearing sunglass at 3.30 in the morning because the indoor lights were too bright.
  • My on campus job is going well. I actually reduced my hours this semester because I did the whole blind justice weighting my options thing. Do I want more money? YES Do I want to be social and have more friends this semester? Double YES. Ah looks like work has to suffer, what a shame... really it is :-P
  • My blogging job is going quite well.
*Warning PLUG coming up*
  • The bosses over at KnowMoreMedia apparently like what I have been doing. So go visit their site. Go visit my site, The Airline Hub. Click on ads. Make the company money so I get paid! The job has been keeping me ultra busy. I have set goals of updating at least twice a day. I don't want to get burned out yet I want the cash a flowing in, so I can travel a bit more this semester. :-D Get the Fuck out of GFK before I go permentately insane.
  • I am about ready to book my flight out to San Francisco with the guys here on campus. We are heading out to SFO in late April for a little aviation loving and bonding time. Now I really have to get in-shape for the trip. I want to look stellar for the trip. I am pretty excited. We are flying United out of Fargo and picking up a connecting flight in Chicago then out to SFO but with United if you have only carry-on luggage you can fly standby on any flight, so we are taking the round about way out there. I am thinking we are taking the FAR-ORD-DEN-SEA-LAS-SFO route. How amazing would that be? I guess it's only amazing if you like to fly.
That's all I really have to say. Oh, I have been getting really into SFU (Six Feet Under). I am off to a hockey game later today, in approximately 16 hours 25 mins. I think it's a bit early to pre-game ;)

Socialization is Key to "Enjoying" ND

I thought I would be social tonight instead of actually studying. So I went to the movies with the entire Swanson 4th floor. I even have a breakfast date... well not a date cause that would be gay but you know meeting up with a couple of mates before we head off to ATC class.

We saw Hostel. Enough said there.

We drove home on an ice sheet.

Good-night

First Week of School

I love the first week of uni. For one simple fact. New hotties! Especially the ones not from the Nodak region.

Back to School

Well SFND starts back to uni tomorrow. It is going to be a rough year but I am sure I will compensate for it by drinking more, swearing more, and just indugling in more profane things to relax from the stress and tension.

However I have begun to socialize more often now. I am finally breaking out of this box and showcasing all my fantastic sarcastic traits. Bring on these Nodak bitches. I am totes ready!

Bring it on!

Back in GFK

I'm back in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I feel the depression beginning already. Bring on the Prozac and any other anti-depression meds. I am going to need it. It looks like a long, cold, snowy, blustery winter.

Just 17 weeks until the end of the semester....

Fatness Be Around Us All

MOOOOOOOO!

That's how I should be communicating now. I feel like such a heffer. I have not put down the silverware since coming home. I find myself walking around the house with a fork so just incase I see something tempting I could just poke at it for hours on end. I honestly get up and the first thing I do instead of taking a shower and getting ready for the day, I head for the kitchen to see what I can make for breakfast.

You know it is bad when your own mother says and I quote...

Your face is getting chubby. And you have a belly. Maybe you should start cutting down on the sweets and treats?

And she is right. My skinny pants no longer fit. They don't even button anymore. My, I feel kind of fat but kind of skinny and maybe if I show off my ass and not have to move around too much, pants are really really tight now. Not attractive if you have a 'spare' tire hanging over. My, this is totally a fat day pants but since I have to wear a belt and I get to use 4 notches on it and that makes me feel skinny, pants are even getting tighter... I no longer have to use the belt. My fat pants hardly qualify as pants, they are more like pj pants. Yes that is totally attractive.

MOOOOOOOO MOOOOOOO

Can I Get a Double Shot of You?

Life here has become so boring. My daily routine is so predictable it has become so sad. I ususally get up around 9am, and after all the normal cleaning and grooming is done with I head off to a different Starbucks. I started out west and now I am moving my way east into the city. I find myself looking for hotness. I got this gift card in my stocking this year. I have to spend the money somewhere. I already know where the hot people work at in Grand Forks. The Starbucks on the corner nearest to my house not so much a winner. It is like they picked out the ugliest people in town and placed them behind the counter. Isn't there some rule at working at Starbucks regarding personal appearence?

I found a couple of good spots where the eye candy makes you want to drool. I ask for the same thing at every place. Can I have a Grande Chai Tea with Soy with no water, please... thanks.

I take my laptop in, surf the web, and just stare at the people behind the counter because I am too much of a pussy to go up and be a man. Instead many times I get caught starring and I turn away in haste, thus creating an even bigger scene.

I need to grow a pair....
